1,000 Schools Could Shut for Strike

21 Apr 2008

More than 1,000 schools could shut this week when teachers go on national strike for the first time in 21 years. Most parents are unaware of the upcoming closures - which would see thousands of children sent home - because schools have been shut for the Easter holidays. It has not yet been confirmed by Kent County council if any schools in Shepway will be affected.

Members of the UK's biggest teaching union, the National Union of Teachers, will carry out a one-day walkout on Thursday in a dispute over pay.
