Shepway Lib Dem campaigner Peter Carroll has asked the Environment Agency to prosecute Southern Water for failing to install Mains Drainage in the town of New Romney, Kent. Over 600 properties are still without mains drainage despite decades of promises. A recently proposed scheme is still not underway after nearly 3 years.

Peter Carroll said, 'Many New Romney residents have taken part in my recent survey of the area. This issue is top of the list of worries. People are angry and frustrated that despite all the meetings and all the positive words, the scheme is still not installed. Residents are fed up of the constant hassle of using cess pits. It is archaic and the there is a health and environmental risk'.

Peter Carroll believes that in circumstances such as these, the Environmental Agency has the power to force companies like Southern Water to come up with the scheme.
