Folkestone & Hythe District Council is celebrating a major milestone as the first council tenants move into new affordable rent homes at the Risborough Barracks development.

The homes, in Shorncliffe, Folkestone, have been funded through the council’s Housing Revenue Account as part of FHDC’s ongoing commitment to increase the supply of affordable, energy‑efficient housing in the district.

The new properties at Risborough will all be available for affordable rent.

All homes have been built to achieve an EPC rating of B, supporting lower energy bills for residents while contributing to the council’s wider carbon‑reduction ambitions.

The council secured the properties through an existing planning consent, and Cabinet approved the purchase of a total of 44 homes on this site in October 2024.

Cllr Rebecca Shoob, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said:

“We're delighted to see the first tenants moving in and look forward to welcoming many more as the development progresses.

“The Risborough Barracks project is an example of the work we’re doing to deliver greener, high‑quality, affordable homes for local residents.”

All of the homes are expected to be completed by the autumn of this year and they will be allocated to applicants on the council’s housing list through Kent Homechoice.
