District-wide Improvements to Local Bus Shelters

Bus shelters across the district are undergoing an upgrade with better protection, improved seating, reinforced windows and digital screens.
The overhaul of bus stops includes the installation of 37 new shelters along bus routes in Folkestone, Sandgate, Hythe and the Romney Marsh.
Bauer Media Outdoor UK has been contracted to complete the scheme and will oversee maintenance of the bus shelters as well as manage advertising at select locations agreed upon by Folkestone & Hythe District Council.
The revenue generated from shelter adverts will provide a guaranteed income to the council, which will be reinvested into improving the bus infrastructure network.
This work is separate from the improvements to central Folkestone shelters as part of the Folkestone – A Brighter Future scheme.
Stops where shelters will be replaced and upgraded include:
- Canterbury Road, Folkestone
- Cheriton High Street, Folkestone
- Cheriton High Street by Tesco, Folkestone
- Cheriton Road, Folkestone
- Dover Road, Folkestone
- High Street, New Romney
- Hill Road, Folkestone
- Scanlons Bridge Road, Hythe
- Shellons Street,, Folkestone
- Shorncliffe Road, Folkestone
- The Esplanade, Sandgate
Will Ramage, Managing Director at Bauer Media Outdoor, said:
“This partnership with Folkestone & Hythe District Council is a great example of how we can make a real difference at a local level.
“By delivering modern, accessible shelters and reinvesting advertising revenue back into the community, we’re helping to create better everyday journeys for residents and visitors across the district.”
All new shelters are expected to be installed by the end of this year.
