Esplanade Crossing SHAME

Conservative Sandgate Council have rejected proposals for a crossing on Sandgate Esplanade.

The Council were offered two options: a traffic island scheme fully funded by County Councillor Tim Prater or to joint fund a zebra crossing scheme alongside Tim.

Despite lobbying by local residents, requests for a crossing dating back many years and the support of the recent Parish Plan consultation, the Parish Council rejected a motion by Lib Dems Season Prater and Ann Rimmer to back the plans.

Parish Councillor Season Prater said:

"This is a huge loss to Sandgate, and a real let-down by the Council. The village has been calling for a crossing for years and to lose out on seeing the job actually done when funds were in place is a big loss.

"The crossing plans had strong cross party backing: Conservative Zoe Varian has worked tirelessly alongside Tim and others to get this scheme brought forward, but was not supported by her party colleagues. Those Conservative Councillors who voted against a crossing have let our area down."
