Gas Explosion Closes Part of Sandgate's Radnor Cliff

10 Oct 2007

Parts of Radnor Cliff, Sandgate, will remain cordoned off for at least the next 24 hours following an explosion and fire at Cliffe House the early hours of Wednesday morning. Residents who have had to leave their homes will be unable to return tonight and will not be allowed back until gas levels have dropped.

The majority of residents have found alternative accommodation with friends and relatives - although some are being offered overnight accommodation by Shepway Council at the Grand Burstin hotel in Folkestone.

Residents who have not yet spoken to Shepway District Council are asked to ring the council on 01303 853236 (office hours) or 01303 221888 (after 5.30pm) with their contact details. This will ensure that the council is aware of the numbers of people who are affected by the explosion, keep them updated, pass on any new information and make sure they get all the support they need.

The same numbers can also be used by anyone who would like more information.
