Gurkha Memorial Fundraiser with Kishor Gurung. Classical Guitarist

FMTMN

we were greeted at the Tower Theatre on North Road with a welcome drink which gave the opportunity to meet the other people attending this event. As always, the Nepalese women were dressed in the most beautiful saris. Welcome speeches were made, including one from me, and the background to the plan for a Gurkha Memorial on the Leas was described.

The next event of the evening was to experience the dancing of the men, women and children of the Nepalese community and this was both touching and humorous. The adults demonstrated a wedding celebration dance and the two young boys made us laugh with their cheeky, and very lively, dance.

The peak of the evening was to experience the skill of Kishor Gurung, a renowned classical guitarist, who entertained us with several pieces of music. At times, it was difficult to see how the sound was being made and his fingers moved effortlessly over the neck and strings.
