At a busy meeting at the Hawkinge Community Centre, the inspiring Chairperson of Nepalese Charity Maiti Nepal, Anuradha Koirala, explained their work and opened our eyes and our hearts to the terrible situation in Nepal where children are exploited for sex. She helped those present to understand some of the issues and difficulties.

The Mayor welcomed her and expressed his sadness at the plight of these children. After the showing of a film and the giving out of facts, the Mayoress responded with an appeal to the audience to raise awareness in Folkestone, acknowledging that the Gurkha community is an integral part of our community and what affects them, affects us. The Mayor hopes that the people of Folkestone will respond with financial support and a commitment to raising awareness.
