Make Our Local Councils Work For Local Business

26 Oct 2010

Lib Dem Tim Prater has lobbied the Government on Business Rates. At the recent Lib Dem conference, Tim spoke with Government Minister Andrew Stunell. He asked him to return the control of Business Rates to local councils. Currently the rates paid by businesses are collected by local councils and then forwarded on to the Government. Some money is then returned to the local councils.

The Lib Dems in Government will give back control to local councils and help business grow.

Tim Prater said:

"Local councils have no incentive to help local businesses. If they kept the business rates they would have a reason to help new businesses and deal with empty shops.

"Andrew Stunell has re-assured me that the Lib Dems in Government are pushing for a reform of the business rates system. They are also looking at new ways to help people invest in business in their local area."
