MIND: General Election 2015: Prevention & public health

29 Oct 2014

It doesn't make sense.

Millions of pounds are spent every year to prevent people developing problems like heart disease or cancer, but hardly anything is spent on preventing mental health problems.

This year, most local authorities are only spending (on average) 1.36 per cent of their prevention budgets on mental health.

That doesn't make sense.

Mind want local and national government to understand that spending on preventing mental health problems developing is just as important as physical health. We're working hard to get national attention on this issue, but we need your help to get noticed in your local area.

Take Action with Mind today.

The Liberal Democrats have already commited to create more opportunity for everyone by working in the next parliament to acheiving equal care and waiting times for mental health as for physical health, by increasing spending on the NHS.

In Government, the Liberal Democrats have already ensured that for the first time, from April 2015, most patients needing talking therapies - for conditions like depression - will be guaranteed the treatment they need in as little as six weeks, with a maximum wait of 18 weeks.
