New Fire Risk scam targets Kent businesses

17 Nov 2006

Kent Trading Standards have warned that rogue companies may be targeting businesses trying to extract unnecessary money from them.

The companies send out letters explaining the new fire safety laws, which require all premise occupiers to do a fire risk assessment. The letter that is being distributed offers a "risk assessment starter pack" for ?137 (sometimes more!) and is claimed to contain all the necessary documentation.

Businesses DO NOT have to use the services of these companies - the forms for the assessment can be downloaded for FREE from the communities and local Government website at www.communities.gov.uk
