New Signs Remind of Speed Limit by Playing Field, Theatre, Kids Nursery & Play Park
New “speed repeater” 30mph signs have been fitted along North Road, West Road, Hospital Hill and Pond Hill Road in Sandgate and Folkestone by Kent Highways.
Volunteer Speedwatch and Kent Police speed traps had regularly found people speeding in the roads. In a number of cases motorists said they were unaware of the limit in the road.
Local Councillor Tim Prater raised this with Kent Highways officers, who accepted there was an issue. In the last few days repeater signs and on-road roundels have been installed at points along the roads.
Tim commented:
"The speed limit along North Road, West Road, Hospital Hill and Pond Hill Road in Sandgate / Folkestone is 30mph. Always has been, still is.
“That's particularly important as they are mainly unlit roads running variously past a number of entrances to housing estates, a playing field, theatre, kids nursery, play park and, er, Gurkha barracks. The limit along the length of those roads is 30mph as it always has been. Hopefully the new signs make that clearer.”
