Tim Prater, the new Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Cheriton, Sandgate and Hythe East, said:
“I really want to thank every single person that voted for me, supported me, delivered for me, hosted a ”Tim on a Stick" campaign board or helped in any other way. I'm humbled by the support I've had, and determined to repay the confidence shown in me. In particular, thank you to the voters of Sandgate and West Folkestone: their faith in me in 2019, 2023 and today has made this happen. I'm proud to represent where I live, and even prouder to be able to do so at Parish, District and now County level as well.
“The work starts here. I've already been in touch with other Liberal Democrats elected across Kent today who will form a new, much larger, Liberal Democrat group. I'll be at my usual monthly Councillor Surgery tomorrow at the Sandgate Farmers Market as I have been since 2019. I'll be in Maidstone on Tuesday, discussing with them how we best help deliver change in Kent. Because these results show people in Kent do want change.
"Lets be clear: Reform UK have done hugely well across Kent in this election. Now we need to make sure they deliver for Kent. Better, safer roads. Schools - especially SEND schools - that support our children, and don't let them down. Buses that get you where you want to be, when you want to be there. I'm going to push them every step of the way to deliver.
“And as we consider a new Council structure for Kent, we need to deliver Councils that can hear, and deliver for, local residents. I've now got a pretty unique view from 5 different existing Councils on what each wants to see happen: I can make sure our area is heard across all of them.”
