Sandgate commemorates William Wilberforce

New William Wilberforce plaque on Sandgate Chichester Hall

Today a plaque, designed and funded by the Sandgate Society to commemorate William Wilberforce's part in the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in 1807, was erected on the North Lane side of the Sandgate Chichester Hall.

The plaque celebrates William Wilberforce's achievements as a reformer, and acknowledges the time he spent in Sandgate in 1812, 1813, 1814 and 1825.
