Potholes in road marked up for repair

It's no secret that I have been pushing for / supportive of plans to resurface the A259 from Sandgate High Street (not the bit I live in!) up Sandgate Hill to Dixwell Road for years.

It did briefly appear in a forthcoming works programme, but was removed when Southern Gas Networks had said they wanted to renew their gas main through the entire length of that stretch. Absolutely no point Kent Highways resurfacing the road, then SGN digging it all up to replace a gas main…

I have however continued to push for patching and pothole repair work especially at the worst area near the junction with Military Road. We've seen the potholes there marked up many times: in fact they've even been marked up again in the last week which seems positive and I've followed up asking for the dates works are actually programmed for: still waiting a response!

However, although we need some short term patching works, I didn't want to lose sight of the full resurfacing, so continued to ask Kent Highways what the status of SGN's mains replacement programme on Sandgate High Street and Sandgate Hill was, and when those works would take place.

And today, I get the response, which unless you wanted to see major roadworks on Sandgate Hill for weeks its great news!

- SGN have withdrawn their gas main replacement scheme for Sandgate High Street and Sandgate Hill.

-KCC Highways Asset Management and Inspections Team has confirmed that Sandgate High Street and Sandgate Hill, up to the crossroads with Dixwell Road, are currently being considered for resurfacing during the next financial year. Further information on proposed dates is expected within the next few weeks.

- In the meantime, the Operations Team are scheduled to undertake carriageway patching works on Sandgate High Street and Sandgate Hill in September.

I've already responded (saying thank you nicely!) and saying anything I can do to get the A259 resurfacing in next years work programme I would support, and asking for more details of the September patching. However, at least we seem to have progress!
