Sandgate High Street to be Closed for Sandgate Gurkha Ceremony

Sandgate Town Council has announced that it will be presenting the Freedom of Sandgate to the 2nd Battalion Gurkha Rifles on Monday 5th May. The event will take place between 11.00 and 11.50 on Bank Holiday Monday, with a parade of troops and pipe band in traditional Gurkha uniform marching down Sandgate High Street to the Sir John Moore Memorial, where the ceremony will take place.

On Monday 5th May, Sandgate High Street from the junction with Military Road along Sandgate Esplanade to Battery Point will be closed to traffic from 11.00 to 11.50 with diversion via Hospital Hill.

Sandgate council also say that Sandgate High Street from its junction with Military Road to the Sir John Moore memorial will have to be clear of parked cars from midnight on 4 May until noon on Bank Holiday Monday.
