Shepway Local Election Results 2011

Lee Walker
New Liberal Democrat Folkestone Town Councillor for Harbour: Lee Walker

The Liberal Democrats in Shepway lost all their seats on Shepway District Council in the 5th May local elections, with the Conservatives now holding 45 of 47 seats on Shepway District Council. On Folkestone Town Council, Lee Walker was elected as Liberal Democrat councillor for Harbour Ward. On Sandgate Parish Council, Gary Fuller was elected to Sandgate Valley ward, and Tim Prater was elected to Sandgate Village ward.

Folkestone West County Councillor Tim Prater commented:

"It was an undeniably bad night for the Liberal Democrats in Shepway and nationally. We have lost some fantastic Councillors and potential Councillors on Thursday - and I suspect the main reason many of us lost was not due to local issues, but national politics. That's life.

"Big congratulations to new Folkestone Town Councillor Lee Walker who was elected in Folkestone Harbour, and I'm pleased that Gary Fuller and myself have been given the opportunity to represent local residents on Sandgate Parish Council.

"The Liberal Democrats locally are down, but in no way out. I want to thank every person that gave us their support, and promise that the Liberal Democrats will continue to stand up for our area, and to hold the Conservatives to account."
