A number of local residents have mentioned that since Storm Brian, the stretch of the Sandgate beach path from Varne Court to the junction with the Riviera (and the stretch by Coastguard cottages where the path meets Sandgate Explanade) is covered with shingle, making it hazardous for walkers and cyclists.

Clearly Shepway Council would have had other things to clear up immediately after the storm, so I left it a few days (until 26 October) before asking for the clearance of the worst Varne Court to The Riviera stretch.

Shepway's Engineering & Buildings Manager responded quickly, saying that they would seek clear the paths when they start work on the beach replenishment works from 11th November as that would be cheaper than doing it on its own now.

I did go back to them suggesting that given the hazard to cyclists and pedestrians leaving it another fortnight before getting them cleared seemed to be a risk. Let's hope no-one falls over (or off their bike) due to the shingle covering the path before they get to clear it, but at least Shepway DC are aware of it, and have been notified in advance if there is an accident and anyone questions it.
