Shepway Lib Dem campaigner Peter Carroll is campaigning for action to help residents who live along the A259 in the Folkestone & Hythe area. The A259 was successfully 'de-trunked' on 30 September this year when responsibility for the road passed from the Highways Agency to Kent County Council.

The aim was that wherever possible through traffic towards Hastings and Brighton would use the M20 to Junction 10 at Ashford and then the A2070 instead of the A259. However, some M20 Motorway signs still direct traffic through Folkestone, Hythe and the Marsh onto Hastings. Peter Carroll is campaigning to get the Motorway signs changed.

Peter Carroll said, 'Now that the A259 is de-trunked, its main purpose is to serve the needs of local people, so it is vital that good signage is in place to direct as much through traffic as possible via the M20 and the A2070. This will lead to a reduction in the traffic going along the A259 through areas like Sandgate, Hythe, Dymchurch and New Romney.'

Peter has written to the Highways Agency and Kent County Council asking for action on this matter.
