Tenants to Return as Pavilion Court Flats Re-opened Following Folkestone Burstin Hotel Fire
Residents who had to leave their homes following the Grand Burstin Hotel fire in Folkestone are now able to return to their flats.
The Pavilion Court residents were evacuated from 90 flats after fears the blaze on 19 September might have weakened the structure of the next-door hotel, potentially causing it to collapse.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council moved most of the residents into hotels and other temporary accommodation, while others went to stay with family and friends.
The Grand Burstin’s structure was investigated and it has now been agreed by experts that the exclusion zone can be reduced – meaning all Pavilion Court residents can return to their flats.
Power has been reconnected to Pavilion Court and this morning (1 October) the necessary fire and safety checks were carried out.
F&HDC leader, Cllr Jim Martin said:
“I am so pleased for the residents that they can return to their homes. I would like to commend their patience in what were extremely difficult circumstances and they must be so relieved to get back in their flats.
“I would like to thank the many volunteers and voluntary groups who have helped our staff to support the residents as they coped with this upheaval and days of uncertainty.”

Extra waste collections are being organised as residents will need to clear fridges that were turned off whilst the building was empty.
Town’s road network
The Harbour Approach Road and part of Marine Parade remain closed. Kent County Council’s highways team is working with local businesses to establish as much access as possible.
