Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader Tim Prater has welcomed Larry Ngan as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Folkestone and Hythe.

Tim said:

"I've enjoyed getting to talk to Larry about the key local issues. I know Larry would be a strong voice for Folkestone & Hythe.

"He has listened to the issues locally - and as we all know there are a lot - and is focussing on clear priorities. I think that's the right thing to do.

"People locally should not be priced out of living here.

"Rents here last year grew faster than ANYWHERE else in the country other than Brent in London. That's shocking. How can we help slow that rent rise? We need to build more affordable homes for our communities. Developments like Otterpool Park and Ship Street in Folkestone need to deliver thousands of affordable new homes for our area over the coming years - both for private rent and as new council housing too.

"And no-one should have to rely on food banks simply to make end meet. The Rainbow Centre and many others - like Action on Homelessness in Folkestone, and Sunflower House, and many more - do HUGELY important work supporting the most needy in our area.

"But in 2024 I really don't see we should be relying on charities - even great charities - to ensure people including working people have enough food for their families. That's not right, and we need a voice in Parliament say so: loud and clear."
