Tough times ahead at the Council

22 Nov 2003

Shepway Council is cutting costs in a bid to ease the financial crisis left behind by the Conservatives.

Lib Dem leader Linda Cufley explained, "We told the previous Conservative administration that their budget did not add up. Sadly we have been proved right."

Lib Dem Councillors have taken a pay cut and action is being taken to save money right across the Council.

Without these actions, Shepway's budget was likely to overrun by nearly £750,000 this year.

Linda said, "We will be doing our best to put our Council's finances in order in the coming months."
