Town Council grant for Folkestone team to enter national football tournament

18 Aug 2009

Folkestone Town Councillors Dhan Gurung and Tim Prater have backed a bid for a team from the Folkestone Gurkha and Nepali Community to play in a national 9-a-side Nepali community football tournament on 30 August 2009 in Reading.

The players in the team all come from the Cheriton / Folkestone area, with the tournament promoting football within the Nepali community, and encouraging and developing team and community spirit.

The £150 "ward grants" from the Folkestone Town Councillors will cover the participation fee in the event, with the players and community meeting other travel and subsistence costs.

Folkestone Town Councillor Dhan Gurung said:

"The support of the Nepali community by Folkestone Town Council is very welcome. Folkestone is the home to many Gurkha's, ex-Gurkha's and their families, and taking part in the tournament will show Folkestone is an active part of the wider Nepali community in the UK."
