Hythe Town and District Cllr Neil Matthews today dismissed last night's Town Meeting as a shambles.

Confusion reigned in the meeting with townspeople unsure what they were voting for, leading to the meeting being closed and then re-opened.

Cllr Matthews said "The Conservatives should take no comfort from the vote last night. The votes of 57 unhappy people, many of whom are ex-Councillors themselves, do not cancel out the overwhelming mandate given to my colleagues and I in last May's elections.

"I attended this meeting and the last in good faith, to find they were little more than sour grapes from Conservatives who lost their seats last year.

"I know that most people in our area would rather their Councillors continued to work their hardest for Hythe instead of spending any more time at these Conservative-led, unrepresentative meetings."
