Winner Announced For Anti-litter Poster Competition

A poster competition encouraging people to do the right thing and put their litter in the bin has been won by a local 9-year-old girl from Hawkinge.
Isabelle’s bright, eye-catching design impressed the judges with her drawing which is now on display on waste vehicles collecting rubbish around Folkestone and Hythe,.
Isabelle was also awarded a £50 Love2Shop voucher at a prize giving ceremony held at the Folkestone Household Waste Recycling Centre on Thursday 25 September.
Runners-up Fearne, 5, from Ivychurch and Everley, 10, from Lyminge also attended the event and received a £25 Love2Shop voucher each for their artistic efforts.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council ran the poster competition alongside its partner Veolia, which carries out recycling, waste collections and street cleansing across the district as part of the national Great British Spring Clean campaign earlier this year.
Cllr Stephen Scoffham, Cabinet Member for Climate and Biodiversity, said:
“It is fantastic to see the next generation taking such a keen interest in not only protecting the environment but also keeping our district clean and tidy for all to enjoy.
“A big thank you to everyone who took part – we loved seeing your artwork.”
Michael Grant, Contract Manager for Veolia East Kent said:
“This competition has proven that even Folkestone and Hythe’s youngest residents have a keen interest in preserving the environment.
“We hope that their artistic talents inspire everyone to do the right thing by disposing of litter correctly to help our hard-working street cleansing teams continue to keep streets sparkling.”
