Ashford Parliamentary Constituency

Now covering the Folkestone & Hythe District Council wards of North Downs East and North Downs West

New boundaries for the 2024 General Election.

About Ashford Constituency

From the 2024 General Election, the Parliamentary Constituency of Ashford will (pretty ridiculously, in our opinion) include the District of Folkestone and Hythe wards of North Downs East and North Downs West, in addtion to the Ashford Borough Council seats of:

Aylesford & East Stour, Beaver, Bircholt, Bockhanger, Bybrook, Conningbrook & Little Burton Farm, Furley, Goat Lees, Godinton, Highfield, Kennington, Mersham, Sevington South with Finberry, Norman, Park Farm North, Park Farm South, Repton, Roman, Singleton East, Singleton West, Stanhope, Victoria, Washford, Willesborough, Wye with Hinxhill.

The Ashford seat therefore stretches pretty much to the coast, across an area that in no way could be called Ashford: Ashford and North Downs, maybe.

Southern Water get Go-Ahead for Drainage Scheme

Residents in New Romney, Greatstone & Lydd-on-Sea are to benefit from mains drainage for the first time after Southern Water was given the go-ahead to lay sewers. Connections to the new drainage system will take place over the next two years. Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed the go-ahead, but continue to question the cost to householders to be connected to the new service. It is likely that householders will be asked to pay a significant bill for connection.

Liberal Democrats Win New MP in Cheadle

Mark Hunter has been declared as the new Member of Parliament for Cheadle with a majority of 3,657. Lib Dem Mark fought a positive campaign on the issues that matter to local people, and is delighted to have been elected to succeed local favourite Patsy Calton. Despite an American-style negative and personal campaign by the Conservatives, their candidate fell to a humiliating third successive defeat in Cheadle.
