About Folkestone and Hythe Constituency

From the 2024 General Election, the Parliamentary Constituency of Folkestone and Hythe will include the District of Folkestone and Hythe wards of Broadmead, Cheriton, East Folkestone, Folkestone Central, Folkestone Harbour, Hythe, Hythe Rural, New Romney, Romney Marsh, Sandgate & West Folkestone, Walland & Denge Marsh.

The electorate will be reduced to bring it within the permitted range by transferring out the North Downs area in the north (North Downs East and North Downs West wards), along with the parts in the Borough of Ashford (Saxon Shore ward), primarily to the reconfigured constituency of Ashford.

Shepway Local Election Results 2011

The Liberal Democrats in Shepway lost all their seats on Shepway District Council in the 5th May local elections, with the Conservatives now holding 45 of 47 seats on Shepway District Council. On Folkestone Town Council, Lee Walker was elected as Liberal Democrat councillor for Harbour Ward. On Sandgate Parish Council, Gary Fuller was elected to Sandgate Valley ward, and Tim Prater was elected to Sandgate Village ward.

The Liberal Democrats in Shepway are fielding more candidates than any party other than the ruling Conservatives at the 2011 local elections. As the official opposition to the Conservatives over the past four years, it is the Liberal Democrats who have held the Conservatives to account on the issues that matter locally - from the closure of the Leas Lift, to the expansion of Lydd Airport, and opposing a massive 6.5% rise in Council house rents this year.
