The results of an Informal Consultation on the CPZ Operational Hours and Parking Designation Changes in Radnor Cliff and Radnor Cliff Crescent, Sandgate have been published.

Following numerous requests from residents in the road, Folkestone & Hythe District Council conducted an informal consultation between the 7th and 30th January 2026 on the following proposed changes:

  • Converting the current shared-use bays in the specified section of Radnor Cliff and Radnor Cliff Crescent to permit holders only during the period April to September;
  • Extending the operational hours in these areas from 8am-6pm to 8am8pm during the period April- September;
  • Increasing the number of passing spaces by shortening some of the existing parking bays.

A total of 138 letters were sent to all addresses in Radnor Cliff and Radnor Cliff Crescent, inviting residents and businesses to complete an online survey and share their views. 40 residents responded to the online survey, representing a 29% response rate, which is notably a good level of engagement for this type of consultation. By comparison, response rates for parking consultations nationally typically range between 15% and 25%.

The responses indicate the majority of respondents are in favour of the proposed changes by over 4:1.

It is therefore recommended that the proposed changes are progressed subject to a formal statutory consultation on the proposed amendments to the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO).

The online questionnaire also gave respondents the opportunity to provide additional comments on the proposals. Many used this space to reiterate their support and to describe the challenges they are currently facing. However, a small number of respondents expressed a preference for keeping the existing restrictions in place to preserve parking availability for their visitors.

One of the key themes highlighted in the comments, emails and letters from residents was the strong desire to include the lower section of Radnor Cliff within the proposals. Given the overwhelming support for its inclusion, it is recommended that this area be incorporated into the draft TRO amendment.
