Hawkinge Parish Council has received permission from Shepway District Council to fill oÂne vacancy by co-option. Any elector who would like to be considered for co-option should write to the Clerk stating your qualifications, and interests that you think will contribute to the work of the Parish Council and benefit the community.

Public meeting in Hythe
Kent Police Authority and Shepway Council are holding a public meeting at Saltwood Village Hall, The Green, Saltwood, Hythe on Thursday 14 July at 7.30pm. The meeting is designed to give local people from Hythe and Saltwood the opportunity to express their views on crime and disorder and discuss how the area is policed. Police officers will be attending, along with other community representatives.

Games On: Briddock and Matthews welcome the London Olympics and new sports facilities for Hythe
Hythe Lib Dem campaigners Sam Matthews and Darren Briddock have reacted with delight to the news that the Olympic Games have been awarded to London. With a new sports centre planned for Hythe and backed by the Lib Dems, they hope it will lead to a huge increase in interest for sport amongst local young people over the next few years.

The Conservative campaign in the Hythe South by-election has been rocked by the news that their own former Councillor is to stand against their official candidate. Party bosses overruled local Conservatives over their choice of former Councillor Martin Ross in favour of another candidate who doesn't even live in the ward.

Smog can have impacts on human health, particularly for those with heart and lung disease. The pollutants which cause smog come from a range of sources, but transport is a major contributor.

Folkestone Nite Rider: Reducing Crime but Under Threat
The 'Nite Rider' bus service which offers a cheap ride home to Folkestone clubbers could be scrapped - despite police evidence showing reductions in criminal damage and assaults. New Harbour Town Councillor Emily Sanger has supported the service, and wants to see it continued.

Kent Schools Pay £175,000 to Learn to Use Computers - In the USA
Hythe computer expert and businessman Darren Briddock has spoken out against plans to fly nearly 100 head teachers from Kent to America for a fact-finding trip in term time to study "the application of the computer age in transforming the ways teachers teach and children learn".
