Tim has lived and worked in Sandgate (on Sandgate High Street) since 2004.
A trustee of the Sandgate Heritage Trust, Secretary of the Sandgate Members Club, Treasurer and Trustee of the Chichester Memorial Hall, former Trustee of the Gurkha Memorial Fund and former Governor of St Martin's School, and current Sandgate Speedwatch volunteer, Tim knows and works for the area!

In May 2023 Tim was re-elected to all the above seats for four more years. At the District Council AGM on 24th May 2023, he became Deputy Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Governance.
Previously, Tim has served on Folkestone Town Councillor for Cheriton from 2006-2011, and Shepway District Councillor for Cheriton from 2007-2011, Kent County Councillor for Folkestone West from 2009-2013. He has sat on Sandgate Parish Council for Sandgate Village since 2011, was the Vice Chair of Sandgate Parish Council from 2018-2020 and Chair from 2020 to date.

Just for historical interest, the Labour Leadership elections results (September 2010) from Folkestone and Hythe Constituency Labour Party. Interesting to note the significant majority voted for David Miliband, and that of 117 votes cast, 94 were for Anyone But Ed...
This weekend, the Guardian featured an article suggesting that the Lib Dem leadership were considering "selling out" on tuition fees in advance of the General Election. Which would be a big story, if only it was true.
A lamp column at the "high, dark" end of Undercliff, Sandgate has been repaired following a report by County Councillor Tim Prater. Also, after years of reports and chasing by the Sandgate Lib Dem team, the central reservation light on the traffic Island by The Ship pub, Sandgate High Street has been timetabled for connection by Kent Highways in December.
On 8th November Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority published its draft plans for the future in a document called Towards 2020, which is now available at www.kent.fire-uk.org.
Veolia Water has rescheduled of essential mains renewal work in Folkestone, with the first scheme in Folkestone now starting in mid November. Veolia has confirmed that between 24 December and 4 January no work will be undertaken.
