A national community wide campaign to raise funds by public subscription to build a lasting memorial to fallen Gurkha heroes will launched in Folkestone on Saturday 11th April 2009.

The KM are asking for votes for the favourite venues in the guide, with the most popular according to the votes being shortlisted and visited by judges to decide the overall winner.

The Shepway District Council's Corporate Scrutiny Committee tonight considered the "call-in" of the Cabinet decision of 18 March to cease the operation of the Leas Lift with immediate effect and to terminate the Leas Lift lease.

Folkestone Leas Lift Decision "Called in" to Scrutiny at Shepway
The decision by the Shepway Council Cabinet to immediately terminate the lease of the Folkestone Leas Lift and stop running the lift has been "called in" to Shepway's Corporate Scrutiny Committee. The meeting at 7pm on 31st March at Shepway Civic Centre is open to the public and will hear from local groups and residents on the impact of the decision.
