Cheriton Councillor Peter Carroll has reported to Kent Highway Services the blackout at the M20 J12 Cheriton Interchange that has disabled many of the street-lights in the area.

Folkestone Academy Principal John Patterson died over the weekend. He had become a well known figure in Folkestone since becoming the Academy's first Principal when it opened its doors in September 2007, and his death was completely unexpected.

Three Week Closure to Folkestone Library for Earthquake Repairs

Folkestone Library will be closed for 3 weeks from the 19 May to 9 June. Repairs to earthquake damage in the upstairs part of the Library will start on Monday 28 April, where the ceilings on the staircase are being repaired, along with substantial repairs in the Peter Davis Heritage Room.

Enbrook Valley Bin Success

Action from Sandgate campaigner Season Prater has convinced Shepway Council to take action on overflowing residents bins for flats above the Enbrook Valley shops in Golden Valley, Sandgate. The bins are regularly full to overflowing, and additional rubbish left by the bins, causing litter across the area by the shops and attracting seagulls and other animals.

Following a long running campaign by Lib Dem New Romney Coast Councillor Val Loseby and local residents, the owners of Lydd Airport (London Ashford Airport) have agreed to cut the glare of floodlights over complaints of light pollution.

Leas Tree Destroyed

A 100-year-old evergreen oak tree sited on The Leas promenade in Folkestone has been cut down illegally. The 50ft (15.2m) oak was one of the largest trees on the Leas and had been in a conservation area.

Kent schools affected by NUT strike action

17 Kent schools are expected to be closed today due to strike action by members of the National Union of Teachers. A number of other schools will only open partially - some reduced to just a few classes functioning normally. The NUT - the largest teaching union - is taking industrial action over pay.
