Last nights meeting of Shepway District Council exploded in controversy with several Councillors from both the Lib Dems and the Conservatives walking out. The meeting was debating a Liberal Democrat motion aimed at fighting proposed cuts to fire fighters and fire engines a Folkestone Fire Station. The cuts will cut the number of the fully manned fire engines from 3 to 1 and the loss of 24 firefighters in Folkestone.
Firstly, I'd like to welcome the representatives from the Folkestone Brigade who are here this evening. When on shift, they can be called upon to put their lives in order to save ours, and those of our constituents, family and friends.
Folkestone salutes its debt to those who fought for their country at the Town's service and parade which takes place on Remembrance Sunday, 11 November, at the Folkestone War Memorial at the top of Folkestone's Road of Remembrance. All Folkestone residents are invited to pay their respects at the ceremony starting at 10.40am, which includes the traditional Silence and Wreath Laying at the War Memorial, followed by a short Service.
