Bogus workman claiming to be from the water board in order to try to gain access to peoples homes were seen in Charles Crescent on Sunday. The police were called after one resident raised the alarm.

Shepway Liberal Democrats have accepted a request from Hawkinge Councillors Peter and Christena Smith to suspend their membership of the Liberal Democrats. In a letter to Shepway Local Party Chair Tim Prater on Saturday, the couple said:
Kent Trading Standards have received information indicating that tarmac gangs are targeting local churches and similar organisations. The usual approach of these gangs is to give a very reasonable quotation before work begins, and to increase the price as the work progresses. When the work is finished, the gang members may behave in an aggressive manner to ensure that payment is made. The quality of the workmanship can be very poor.
