Kent Trading Standards together with 81 other local authorities are taking part in the Office of Fair Trading's (OFT) nationwide Scamnesty campaign again this year. They are asking for members of the public to drop their scam mail in bins and bags placed around the county.

Lib Dem campaigner Neil Matthews has today reported to Shepway Council high levels of litter on the playing fields and in the hedges adjacent to Blenheim Drive in Hawkinge.

In memoriam: Tim Hogg

Shepway Lib Dems are sad to have learnt that Tim Hogg passed away recently. He served as a Shepway District and Hythe Town Councillor between 1983 - 1991 and was elected Deputy Mayor of Hythe in 1990. Very best wishes and our condolences to his friends and family for their loss.

As NO2ID highlighted in the Queen's Speech, the Coroners and Justice Bill which received its First Reading in the Lords yesterday, will turn the Data Protection Act on its head as far as government use of personal information is concerned - giving powers to ministers to override confidentiality and data protection and to use information collected for one purpose for any other purpose.

East Kent hit as Zavvi close Ashford store

Troubled music, games and DVD chain Zavvi have closed 22 of the firm's stores with immediate effect - costing 178 jobs - including their store at the Ashford Designer Outlet, Ashford with the loss of 8 staff. The chain is also axing its Chatham, Kent store with 13 staff losing their jobs there.
