What price austerity now?

I hate to make a party political point (he lied) but recent news articles tell us that not only has GDP been above pre-crisis levels since 2013, but GDP per capita has also just returned to those levels too, which is more important. The point is that the austerity-hating Scottish National Party managed to oust Danny Alexander, in May, even though he had been one of the leading architects of the strategy which put the entire country back on track.

Kent County Council Trading Standards is warning residents in the Kent area of a scam. An email claims you have won £825,000 in the People's Postcode Lottery.

We need a new way of lending

The high street banks have never really been a suitable source of loans for those with limited assets or income - their basic idea seems to be that you can only borrow from them if you can afford not to do so. The principal alternative that grew up historically for those in need who could not meet the strict lending criteria of the banks was loan sharks and unregulated lending. Other than credit unions, of which more later.
