There is not much point pretending that the election results in Shepway for the Lib Dems - in common with much of the rest of the country - were other than awful.
The Liberal Democrats in Shepway lost all their seats on Shepway District Council in the 5th May local elections, with the Conservatives now holding 45 of 47 seats on Shepway District Council. On Folkestone Town Council, Lee Walker was elected as Liberal Democrat councillor for Harbour Ward. On Sandgate Parish Council, Gary Fuller was elected to Sandgate Valley ward, and Tim Prater was elected to Sandgate Village ward.
The Liberal Democrats in Shepway are fielding more candidates than any party other than the ruling Conservatives at the 2011 local elections. As the official opposition to the Conservatives over the past four years, it is the Liberal Democrats who have held the Conservatives to account on the issues that matter locally - from the closure of the Leas Lift, to the expansion of Lydd Airport, and opposing a massive 6.5% rise in Council house rents this year.
Since joining the coalition Government in 2010, the Liberal Democrats have been working to help sort the financial mess left by Labour. In a coalition government, no party can deliver everything in its manifesto, but the Lib Dems have made big steps in delivering fairness for Britain.
Local Lib Dem Campaigner Gary Fuller has reported potholes and graffiti in Sandgate, including potholes in Chalcroft Road and Coolinge Lane near Sandgate Primary School.
