Henley faces a by-election following the election of MP Boris Johnson as the Mayor of London, and the Liberal Democrats are the clear challengers to the Conservatives for the seat.
Ministers are to consider plans for a database of electronic information holding details of every phone call and e-mail sent in the UK, it has emerged. The plans, reported in the Times, are at an early stage and may be included in the draft Communications Bill later this year, the Home Office confirmed.
Folkestone East ward Councillor Anthony Dunning has resigned from the Liberal Democrats, and the Liberal Democrat group on Shepway District Council. Anthony's stated intention, laid out in a letter handed to the leader of the Lib Dem group following the Shepway Council AGM on 14 May, is to join the Conservatives.
