Around 2 million adults in the United Kingdom have responded to a scam mailing in the last year, around half of those scammed have lost more than £50 in total, others have lost more than £5,000. Many of these people receive further contact from the criminals being then asked for even more money and or for personal information. Over £3 billion is lost to scammers each year and it is of growing concern.

In effect, the day at Canada House was a reception to celebrate their Canadian Armed Forces Day. It was really interesting to meet so many people from around the world with an extraordinarily hospitable welcome from the Canadian staff.
In May 2010, Liberal Democrat Morehall ward Councillor Tom McNeice was elected as the Mayor of Folkestone. To record the year and the hundreds of engagements during that time, Tom is keeping a journal as a record of some of the events, meetings and people that he has seen as part of his time of Mayor, and the good things happening across Folkestone and Shepway.
The Ampitheatre on the Lower Leas, Folkestone, was the perfect venue for the Girl Guide Association to celebrate 100 years of Girl Guiding. Campfire songs change very little over the years and we enjoyed joining in with the many songs that were led by the Guides and leaders.

The Mayor was warmly welcomed by the people who have been fundraising for The Pilgrims Hospice for longer than the building has existed. For 5 years they raised money for a dream which didn't even have a planned venue. Now, 30 years later they continue to raise funds to maintain the high level of care that the patients deserve. The Mayoress couldn't resist buying a Kentish Apple Cake and some home made marmalade.
Photo call at the Walter Tull Plaque on Christchurch Tower in the Garden of Remembrance, Sandgate Road, Folkestone. It brings a feeling of great pride in a soldier who has been overlooked for so long. Pleased to have contributed to a permanent reminder of the connection with Folkestone.
Shepway Councillor Tim Prater has warmly welcomed news (http://tinyurl.com/23v76fo) that the Folkestone Leas Lift will be operated by a group led by local historian Eamonn Rooney, and has wished the new company every success.
A new group for welcoming visitors to Kent is to be set up in the Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh area and friendly, knowledgeable locals are being sought to join it.
Keith Bennett and Aster Hall welcomed the Mayor to B-4-8s in Town Walk, Folkestone and described the excellent work that they do. David Dickinson also welcomed the Mayor and shared some past experiences about the help that the charity has been able to give.
